Majorca - Mediterranean

Has anyone here been to Majorca? Have any suggestions as to what part of the island to stay on? We'd like to be close to the beach, as well as some locat night spots...

Any other suggestions on mediterranean beach spots? We don't want to go as wild as Ibiza but also want someplace fun.

Went to majorca years ago. Avoid magalluf unless your idea of fun is drunk british builders/students. It gets kinda rowdy there. The northern side of the island is much quieter though (maybe a bit too quiet as its fairly family orientate).
