What are the visa requirements for Prague? How do I go about getting info on this, I'll be in Berlin and wish to travel through the Czech spending several days on route to Vienna. How long should I allocate for this stop? I know that my rail pass will not cover this trip; will I incur a lot of expenses in choosing this route? I hadn't originally planned to visit Prague but everyone tells me it's a must see I leave in about 3 weeks and I've just finally found some time to start planning my itinerary......... help!!!!

Hola, - If you are a citizen of the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, new Zealand, or Australia, you don't need a visa if you're staying for less than 90 days. - I will suggest a 3 days stay at least. It is a charming place with pleasant architecture and vistas. and you shouldn't worry about expenses here. Prague is very affordable. As far as the pass go, I think that you will have to pay from the German border into Prague and then from Prague to the border wtih Austria. Maybe people on the board could verify this. Bara

Actually, that's not true regarding Canada. As of 2001, Canadian citizens do need a visa for Prague regardless of how long you will be there for. You must apply for your visa before you leave Canada.

allow at least 2 days but be very aware of thieves and pick pockets especially on trams and metro.I had a neck purse on and someone got it partly open on the metro and friends had a bum bag opened ond 200£ of currency taken.. with it around her middle.. But dont let it put you off its a wonderful city

Do you have to get the visa before you leave canada? Is it possible to get one at the czech border or at the embassy in Berlin or other countries?

this is a good question, one that i'm curious about
The Czech's got mad that we require them to have a visa so did the same to us, understandably...
I'm wondering if I'll have time to get one before I leave (I leave next Saturday...May 31)

OK, I've emailed the Czech embassy to see what they say about getting a visa before you go or if you can get one while travelling, before entering the Czech. Republic. Michael-as you don't have much time, you may want to call them in case we don't hear back in time. Embassy of the Czech Republic 251 Cooper Street, Ottawa, ON, K2P 0G2 tel: 613-562-3875 fax: 613-562-3878 e-mail: ottawa@embassy.mzv.cz. www.mzv.cz/ottawa/ or General Consulate of the Czech Republic 1305 Ave. des Pins, Ouest, Montréal, Québec H3G 1B2, Canada tel: 514-849-4495/ fax: 514-849-4117/ e-mail: montreal@embassy.mzv.cz . They emailed back... "You can apply for a visa in Europe as well, but it must be before you enter the Czech Republic. For further details where you should apply in Europe please visit the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic: www.mzv.czIt is not possible to obtain a visa at the border or at the airport. Best regards, Visa Dept." Kim

Thanks Kim,
That's very helpful I think I'm going to run out of time before I get to Prague anyhow, so I'll have to save it for the next trip!
