Thinking about going to Iceland late October, anyone been there around this time of year? Have found a few references suggesting that the place might be shut down around then, but?... And, is it truely impossible to do this place cheaply? Can't find many cheap tours or trips, even transport seems expensive, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Any ideas? Cheers

I haven't been in October, but it won't be shut down, the weather shouldn't be too bad as iceland is warmed by the gulf stream. Check this link: www.icelandtouristboard.com/neverout.htmland www.icelandtouristboard.com/ has tons of info. I don't know about tours, but I would suppose the expensive prices could be attributed to Iceland's extremely high gasoline costs.

It's off-off-off season. Many attractions in Iceland close in early September.

not just the Gulf stream, it comes from Texas you know ;D, Iceland also sit atop major magma. Geothermal is how they get power. I haven't been in October, but it won't be shut down, the weather shouldn't be too bad as iceland is warmed by the gulf stream.

exactly... that's what makes it such a neat place too. It's also good to have with the "abundance" of fossil fuels there
