As part of my plans for a two month tour of Europe, I've set aside about 6-7 days for Greece. This is the only section of the trip that I'm having real trouble with. Where are the best places to go? What shouldn't I miss? Was there anything you hated?
I will be ferrying in from Brindisi and back out to Venice.

Wasn't a big fan of Athens at all, I would give it only one day at the most.
LOVED the islands though. Went to Mykonos, Ios, Naxos and Paros and enjoyed them all.
Mykonos is a bit more touristy, aimed at more of a gay destination and maybe a little more expensive but definately one of my favorites. It's fantastic.

I spent 5 days in Ios and a day and a half in Santorini - it's worth the trip to Santorini just to catch the sunset in Oia ......... trust me, it was by far one of the highlights of my entire trip! Ios was just a different kind of highlight ;D I UNFORTUNATELY was stuck in Athens for 3 DAYS!!!!! It was a holiday and half the greek popultion had the ferries completely booked up anyways one day to see the acropolis and ruins is plenty!! I really just wanted to relax & enjoy the beach so I didn't try to hit any other islands. I'm assuming your 6-7 days does not include your travel time from Italy either way? I did the ferry from Santorini to Pireaus - bus to Patras - ferry to Ancona - train to Florence and it took me a total of 45 hours......... Take into consideration that the ferry from Brindsi I believe arrives in Patras - from that port you need to take a 3.5 bus ride to Athens, then get on another city bus to the tourist area or the port of Pireaus for the islands - approx. 20min from the bus station. Anyways well worth the travel time to say the least! Good luck, Kel
