Hi again!
Thanks for all you previous advice! I thought I would give this question a try!!
I'm planning on backpacking a bit in Europe next July and August (I know I'm early, but I love planning trips!) and I have always wanted to go to Greece. I'm also big into ancient history so I would love to see some of the sites of the old glory days in Greece!
I would love to see Mycenae, Sparta, Delphi, Olympia...may be even Pylos!
Although I would love to see the islands, I think it will just be too crazy that time of year (and there is also the Olympics to think about!) so I was wondering if anyone has spent some time in Mainland Greece, how was finding accomodation, transportation etc.
Any suggestions for a history buff???
Thanks in adavnce! Kirsty ;D

I love planning way in advance too.. the planning is the best part! I've only been to Athens and the islands - and you are right, that time of year it's buuuuusy! Especially August. You might want to check out this page: www.travel-library.com/europe/greece/It lists tons and tons of travelogues of other peoples trips through Greece - you might be able to get some good info from them. Some are a bit old but the general stuff would still be good. Kim

www.greecetravel.com/I found Matt's travel guide to Greece very helpful. He offers plenty of advice for the mainland. I agree that it will probably be pretty crazy with the Olympics, but the mood will likely be festive.
