I am due to travel around france for 2.5 weeks in June/July can any one recommend places to visit, we are going to camp our way around but may use some hostels. I don't really want to do paris or the cote azure. My partner wants to go to the dordogn region. I am not into heavy nightlife but nice places to eat and drinK if we wish. I want to visit places which are beautiful + scenic and will leave a lasting impression, We are going to be travelling by car from calais.

I don't know all that much about the Dordogne region, but I know that it is full of good food, good wine, and chateaux (would love to see Josephine Baker's place, Les Milandes in Castelnaud). The Perigord area is supposed to be one of the more gastronomically divine spots in France. Also you might be interested in the prehistoric paintings and engravings found in the Vezere Valley. (The famous one is in the cave in Lascaux, it's closed but you can see an exact replica in an adjacent cave.) Have you already been to Paris? With the amount of time you have, it seems a shame not to go for at least a day. I find it to be a good walking city, quite intimate and not too overwhelming (just my opinion).

Just to add to Cil's excellent suggestions (ditto on Paris comment!), Dordogne region is stunning and well accessible if you are driving (which you are I see!). As well as the Perigord, why not spend a few days in/around Lyon if it's food you're after?! Stunning city, old town, surrounds, and great places to eat no matter what your budget. Macon, Beaune, Mont St Michel, Avignon, Aigues Mortes, Carcassonne, Bordeaux (outside the town if you want scenery and access to the coast, but it might be too far south for you) would also be my suggestions, again depending on the route you want to take and how much time you want to spend in places.
Hope that helps! Grab a map and start planning! ;D
