I'm only 5'3", and so I've been searching for a while now for the right backpack. A lot of the kind I see are huge! I also wanted to get one that was within carry on limits because I absolutely hate the time it takes to check baggage and then wait and wait and wait to pick it up on the carousel. I also want to keep light and practical. I found this on Rick Steves' site, only $99 to boot and made for people under 5'5". What do you all think about it? Pros and cons? ricksteves.com/marketplace/merch/expandable.htm

Looks like a decent bag. Has a waistbelt which some of his bags don't have-never buy one without it, it's too hard on your back. The only con I would suggest would be the lack of smaller detachable daypack. I like a pack with a detachable daypack to bring out with you during the day-for your lunch, camera etc. But hey....that's just me! It is hard to find a smaller bag with a detachable daypack as I guess you could just dump it out and use it as one! In that size and price, I also like the Eagle Creek Matrix Vanadium members.shaw.ca/guideforeurope/1038464.jpg[/img] Vanadium from Eagle Creek is a whole new snazz of a daypack. Sleek, stylish, and flexible – it's ready for all the possibilities, school, work, or travel. Padded S-curved shoulder straps with electronics attachment loops Padded Protect-It® pocket for electronics Trap door for headphones Padded back with moisture-wicking fabric Padded and ventilated waistbelt with hib stablizer straps Waist belt with side-release buckle Side water bottle pockets Carry handle Shock Strap™ Suspension System for load cushioning and ergonomic fit Stretch Marsupial Pocket™ with compression straps Multiple compartments and large front organizer pocket Waterproof Shower Cap pack cover Matrix Nylon fabric Size: 13.5" x 20" x 9.5"; 2300 cu. in.; 3 lbs. 3 oz. $100 service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=32958036&siteid=39114965&bfpid=ECMVAN&bfmtype=premium I'm taking a look around for other ones in that size/price-I'll let you know if I find any others.
