Its been a very long time since i've been in the UK in the summer so i'm conflicted about what pants to bring along. i'm going for 2.5 weeks form june 21st to july 9th. either i can bring 2 pairs of pants (1 jeans and 1 black) and 1 capris, or 1 pair of jeans and two pairs of capris. any thoughts? normally i'd go with 2 capris but i will be spending 6 days in the shetlands which are supposed to be much cooler...

I'd go for 1 pair of jeans and 2 pairs of capris. The weather's pretty good over here at the moment and it looks like it'll (hopefully) stay that way for a bit. 2 pairs of jeans might be a little warm. I've been wearing them recently and it's been bordering on uncomfortable at times. By bringing a combination you're pretty much sorted regardless of the weather .

why do you travel to the same city over and over again? if you already know london you should go for other places (scotland, wales, ireland, ...?), or do you visit some friends there?

No worries . There's nothing wrong with visiting the same place numerous times either . If anything, it can give you more of a unique perspective of a city/region, as you tend to look past the stereotypical tourist attractions and see the city/region more like a local would (i.e. you see past the tourist stuff to the 'real place').
