As mentioned in another thread, the aim is to backpack around europe, then wind up working in London/England. Having 2 years waitress experience, thats probably what I'll be doing. I've checked out the sorta work I'd be interested in, and most require a standard waiters uniform - black pants, black shoes, white blouse... Now my shoes are heavy, so it'd probably be best buying them over there, but what about the other items? I know I most likely wouldn't wear them as casual pieces of clothing, so they would just take up space, however London is so expensive.. Should I take them with me or buy them over there?

if you'll start out in London, would it be possible to leave a package w/ work shoes & clothes with someone in London? do you know anyone there?

Yeah, i do know people around London, but will be starting out in Rome... Would it be worth posting it, or cost too much?

Would it be worth posting it, or cost too much? mailing it from Australia might cost too much. perhaps you could bring it with you to Rome and mail it there? a quick glance here -> www.poste.it/en/postali/parcels/quick_pack.shtmlshows package rates to EU countries from Italy @ Up to 3 kilos for €27,20

cher1e, depending on the type of restaurant you're planning to work in, some of them provide at least a staff shirt (they often have a signature look for the style of the venue) - plus, you can pick up decent quality basics like black trousers and white shirts in Marks & Spencer (shops all over UK), so you may not even need to schlep them with you. If you wear the black trousers/pants for things other than work, then yeah, but otherwise it won't be hard to find a pair or 2 once you arrive in London.
