I went to Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken and Gimmelwald. Have to say that Gimmelwald was AWESOME!! The train trip up the Eiger seemed cool, but we didnt do it because it was really expensive. We did take the cable car up the Schilthorn from Gimmelwald - we went really early to get the early bird special, and ate breakfast in the revolving restaurant. that was still kinda pricey but really nice. We sat there for like an hour and a half, sipping coffee and watching the mountains go by.
Zurich - eh, it was alright but I wouldnt put it on the top of my list.
Lucerne was alright. I had heard a lot of great things about it. The weather was pretty crappy when we were there so maybe that is why I wasnt impressed. If I had to do it over again, I would go straight to Gimmelwald and spend a nice long relaxing week there hiking and hangning out.
Interlaken was alright. We stayed one night in Balmers, and met some cool people. It was off season but still there was a social scene right there in the hostel. And I went paragliding - which was AMAZING!! That was our only reason for going to Interlaken anyway, and it was well worth it! (you have to go through interlaken to get to Gimmelwald - or we probably would have skipped it)

must agree with megamay about Zürich. its airport - w/ a non-stop connection to Dallas, the Southernmost of just 4 in Europe, is the only reason i go there.
well, there's a nice historic Cathedral and an urban lake, but that town is sooooooo expensive! the only time i spent the night there was sleeping on an airport couch before an early AM flight home!
when i did the Eiger thing, i was a teenager with mis padres. wasn't even aware of the price.

You have to go to Gimmelwald. It was the most memorable stop of my trip. Beautiful, and not a very touristy place. It's like nothing you've ever experienced before.

Interlaken was cool! wasn't there long. luzern was pretty, too. zurich was cool... crazy expensive... like all of switzerland. they have a cool museum... lots of chagall (my fave). but we had crappy weather so i may have liked it more otherwise. i was staying with a friend so food and lodging wasn't as expensive as it should have been.

oh, the Eiger is cool! you can take a train up the inside of the mountain. just looked it up. (finally!) the half day pass is CH160. that *is* outrageous. this is where i found that price info -> europeforvisitors.com/switzaustria/articles/jungfraujoch_railway.htmin thinking back - this was a long time ago - we did that Good Morning thing, to save a little money.

FOr anyone intersted in Switzerland, I am from there now live in Canada...all the suggestions are good however INterlaken is very very touristy...if you want to see the heart of Switzerland...go to Berne it is unbelievable beautiful, FOr alps and breathtaking view head to Valias (the valley tihe french part) in areas such as Sion (then you can drive an hour and a bit to italy if you wish) For CHEAP CHEAP train tickets buy them online at sbb.ch such a deal...but if you want to see the true country avoid touristy places...my piece of advice
