[glow=red,2,300][/glow] I'm trying to plan an itinerary that incorperates historical site-seeing/good hiking/partying and beach bumming. I'm a 21 year old female traveling alone and I wouldn't mind meeting people. I'm aiming to be there for the entire month of May, and I would like to find some beautiful untouristy villages that I can explore as well as mix it up in the popular places. This is my first time backpacking, so any info on greece would be helpful, especially about places that are off the beaten path. Thanx! Aimee.

Hi Amy, If you are into the party scene, you will DEFINITELY want to go to the island of Ios!! It is a non-stop, all night party scene. It is also in the Cyclades, which would offer you the opportunity to hop around to a lot of other popular islands, like Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete... any combo you want. Here is a great site to help you plan: www.greektravel.com/and I cannot recommend this guidebook enough... it really helped me a lot: www.greekislandhopping.com/Home/Homefr.htmYou can probably find a cheap copy on Amazon. Basically, you cannot go wrong in Greece IMO. You will want to stay in Athens for at least two nights in order to see the Acropolis (very cool!), but then just pick your island chain, and have a blast! Mari

I am from greece. Go to patmos, its a lovely island but it will be very quiet in may (as all the islands, maybe except Mykonos during the weekends). Go to the peloponesse, i.e. , all the south coast is beautiful, and also to galaxidi south part of central greece, Pilio, eastern part of central greece, and Meteora, central greece. Go to zakynthos and kefallonia, islands with lovely beaches. And be patient...greeks will get on your nerves at times, and wont be all that helpful. Ofcourse it depends.., we are nice people after all. Oh and learn some greek words, it will be helpful and appreciated by the people. Northern greece is great and less turistic. Have a great time!
