Hello, I have been looking for various daytrips while for my trip this spring, in Edinburgh... I came across Doune castle, and found out that was where Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed, and naturally now feel somewhat morally obligated to visit it haha. ;D The fact that it is really a beautiful castle/surrounding area also helps. Problem is, that is really all I know about it as of today, and I'm having trouble finding transportation times and information to that location... Has anyone ever been there? Or anyone think it is particularly worthwhile as a trip? Or would it be more valuable to consider finding a tour with a stop over there? Is it in a terribly obscure location (ie- easily served by bus or rail)? I also was wondering if it really seems feasible as a day trip... it is a little further North West than Stirling (8 miles or something). Maybe I would be better served by just sticking to Stirling as a day trip? I think I am out of questions haha, I apologize for the assault there, but if you've ever been there, or know anything at all about it, I would very much appreciate anything you know! Thanks in advance

hey... ok, Doune castle is ok... although there are much nicer castles in Scotland. I can certainly understand your interest in visitng however. depending how long you are in edinburgh you may want to consider doing a few day long tour, I used Haggis tours while I was in Edinburgh studying abroad. I took a 3 day two night tour that came to 80 pounds... the food and hostels weren't included but you saw a lot of scotland, and the guide was not only a blast but really knew a lot about Scotland and everwhere we were going... he was constantly sharing folk stories about the parts we were driving through, playing games, having a laugh, etcetera... i believe they have a website check it out.
I felt like it was a very good deal, the hostels we stayed in were the cheapest I saw the entire time I was in the UK, and the quality was some of the best, one even did an all you can eat buffet for 3 pounds... good deal.
I went up to stirling again, because thepatricular tour i went on was more a highland tour so we only stopped for about an hour in stirling and didn't see the inside of the wallacemonument nor the inside of the castle. On my return I was a bit disappointed by the castle, and the wallace monument, while cool, reallyonly rocked because they had his sword.
Definitly check out sky, I think the best time i had was hanging out on the western end of Scotland chilling on the kilt rocks, but thats just me,
