Hey all,
I came across an interesting event I think I will be attending. There is an vintage auto race on the weekend of July 7-9 in Le Mans, France. There will be a collection of antique autos racing for 24hrs, as they did in past Le Mans 24hr races.
Anyone else in the area and interested in going?
Has anyone stayed in the city of Le Mans? I looked for hostels and there was only one listed, and it seemed booked. Anyone have any other ideas for cheap lodging?
Cheers!

I suspect the cheap accommodation gets booked up quickly for such events. What's the nearest town or city? Take a look here. There is cheap lodging somewhere near by Le Mans, but I can't figure out how you could book more than 100 days in advance. The other question is, if you would be able to use public transport from the Formule1 motel to the race - I'm not sure how well that is set up. If you do decide to do this, keep in mind French time zones and have your trigger finger ready in a few weeks! www.hotelformule1.com Also, if you do find a convenient hostel, but can't find availability online, be sure to telephone to see if you can book directly (and then get a fax or email confirmation). Not all availability is online. Edit: Here's the HI hostel that seems to be near Le Mans. Follow the instructions and see what happens: www.fuaj.org/eng/hostels/aj_fiche.php?aj_id=55

Thanks!
I think I'm going to try and camp out. I'll only have to find a cheap tent somewhere close to Le Mans. I've heard I should be able to get a useable one for under 30E.
Cheers
