Hi all...
I am researching/booking hostels and am trying to decide between spending 3 days in Venice, then 2 days in Vienna, or the other way around.
In other words... I'll be arriving in Venice on June 27th (aft.), and either taking a night train to Vienna on the night of June 29th or 30th. We are then taking another night train from Vienna to Gimmelwald on the night of July 2nd.
What do you think? The year of Mozart in Vienna sounds memorable, and I've heard read some opinions on here that 2 days in Venice is enough... Any thoughts?
Also, is the Hostel Ruthensteiner a good bet for Vienna? Or should we try the "Believe it or not hostel"?
Thanks!
Cheers!

I am researching/booking hostels and am trying to decide between spending 3 days in Venice, then 2 days in Vienna, or the other way around. don't know. i had about 36 hrs in Venice. i felt that much had been left unseen. but, Vienna is an all time great city of European history. there's much to see there, from castles to museums, and much much more. as you put it, this is a big year for Mozart.

while i LOVE venice, and could definately have done with more time there, i'd say 2 days of venice will give you a good taste. while i've never been to vienna, i would go with david's suggestion.

the hostel ruthensteiner is fine, it's a very quiet hostel though so if you are looking for a party you won't find it there. It's very clean and well run though. I would personally spend more days in venice but that's just a personal preference. It just depends what you are more interested in.

Hello!
Thanks for the responses.
We aren't crazy partyers so that hostel sounds nice....
I think we are leaning towards the extra day in Vienna. The Mozart festivities sound great. Of course.... so does strolling around in Venice. Hmm.... We just have to be flexible and talk to some people when we are over there. Hopefully we will run in to backpackers coming from that direction when we are in Rome or Venice...
Cheers

Personally i thought Venice was a beautiful place, but i'd have to agree with the others in saying spend the extra time in Vienna. I didn't get to do enough in Vienna because i didn't have enough time there, and it is a city full of rich history, especially in comparison to Venice.
