I know this is similar to a recent post.. but instead of weighing Vienna and Venice, I'm weighing Venice vs. Florence..
We have 4-5 days to spend in Northern Italy before heading down to Rome, would people suggest staying in Florence (with a possible day trip to Lucca) or visiting Venice, or some combination of both?
Thanks!

With only that amount of time you really wouldn't be able to do both because they are quite far from each other. Personally i think Venice would be worth it because it is so different from all the other places i went in Europe. It's an absoloutely beautiful city. but then again. so is florence. But it really depends on what your looking for.

if you have 5 days, 2 in in venice and 3 in florence. its about a 3 hour train ride i beleive. venice is amazing but i don't think you need 5 whole days there. florence is also fantastic. there's a lot to see and 3 days is a good amount of time to cover it all. if you have only 4 days i'd probably stay in florence and do day trips... there's just more to see there. but i love venice.
