Hi there- Which Swiss town would you recommend I visit? I will be staying with a friend in Zug (outside Zurich), and I would like to visit a mountain town for a few days. I have basically narrowed it down to Gimmelwald, Interlaken, or possibly the hostel in Gyron listed in the directory. I know basics about each town: Interlaken- outdoor playground, hotspot; Gimmelwald- quaint town, off the beaten path, nice hikes in the Alps; Gyron hostel- probably somewhat similar to Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald.
On another note, how many days (nights) do I need in Vienna? Of the attractions, what is truly worth seeing with somewhat limited time to spend there?
Thanks

if going overland to Vienna from Switzerland, Salzburg is great fun & Innsbruck has phenomenal mountain views!

gimmelwald! you won't regret it!! the price to stay in the hostel is not bad and you won't be spending as much money there. Switzerland is extermely expensive! If you enjoy scenery and hiking it's a definite must. Even if you are a lazy bum and just sit around, you will enjoy it As far as vienna i think 3 nights is good. I also second david's opinion on visiting salzburg, i would chose this city over innbsbruck just cuz there are more things to do but both are absolutely beautiful

To see Salzburg, you will only need one day (It's worth it to get to the castle to see the view from up there, only thing is that there is a little train going up there, so it will costs you a few euro / another option in to walk but that will take you more time. The choice is yours.)
For Vienna. In my view 4 days are better (but then again it's my favourite city, so I'm not really objective)
What to do in Vienna?
It depends on what you like. If you want to see the big tourist attractions, than I would say: Schloss Schönbrunn, The Hofburg, Belvedere (as a building more interesting than Schönbrunn) For sure you have to see some of the buildings on the Ringstrasse (Opera, Rathaus, Burgtheater, Museums), And in the city center you can find a lot of things (The Dom is the most famous one). Big advantage is that everything is in walking distance of eachother (except for Schönbrunn), so in a few days you can really see a lot.
What I liked last time that I was there is the Museum Quartier, with a really interesting museum for Modern Art (MuMok). Also the big cementary (Zentral Friedhof) is a good place to get a little bit of peace, and to see a lot of interesting things. (but like Schönbrunn a bit out of the centre)
For some good food, go to a street called: Lugeck (it's pretty close to the Stephansdom). There is a restaurant there that offers good food for a good price (at least for Vienna City Centre). Don't get fooled by the adds for the biggest schnitzel in town, secret is that they just flatten the meat, so it looks big, and it's not as good as in other places).
