I've cut some things out of my itinerary that I've realised were less important to me and I now have a bit of extra time that I was hoping to add to France. So far, the only place I'm planning on going to is Paris, and I'd really like to add somewhere that would give me a good taste of France.
As far as general areas go, I've been thinking of either the Loire Valley (probably Tours) or Provence (either Arles or Aix en Provence) . Which of these would be a good choice to add a little bit of extra France time and how much time would I need for it?

i very much enjoyed tours. you'd probably need about 2 days or so. 1 day to do a castle tour (expensive but well worth it) and 1 to poke around tours for a bit. its not very big so i don't think you'd need much more than 2 days unless you're big into castels and plan on doing several tours.
I also very much enjoyed nice. it was a nice change of pace from the rest of the trip and fun to hang out on a beach. we stayed 3 days, spent 2 on the beach (for the most part) and 1 we day tripped to monaco.

I am well known hereabouts to be no fan of France. That said, you have names 3 towns in France that I greatly enjoyed. Aix in Provence...if there in spring or summer particularly is wonderful. Is there much to do? No. But the city is beautiful and laid back and if in season I can well imagine the lavendar fields in bloom are worth any effort to get there. Tours, for the Loire Valley is again a terrific stop. There are numerous tours/trips available at the TI that will get you about to some of the various chateauxs and are a good value and the way to go. Nearly all of them are virtually impossible to get to on public transport and the tours, either half or full day are a great way to get to several of them. Highly recommended. You did not mention Avignon, but I would add that to your possible list, Ducal Palace, bridge and the town itself are worth an overnight easily. DOM......please don't ask me about France! I detest France!

Thank you both for your input! I've been doing more research into both Tours and a still somewhat unknown area in Provence (I'm thinking of staying in Aix-en-Provence, and maybe going to see Avignon and/or Arles briefly) and am definitely leaning towards adding them both in. And dustoffmom....from here on in, no more France questions! I promise
