I'm going to be spending a few days in Gimmelwald, hiking and just generally relaxing, then I have to fly from Geneva to Barcelona. I have an extra day in there - I'm wondering if I should spend it somewhere in between (maybe Montreaux or Lausanne), or just add an extra day in Gimmelwald or Geneva. Anyone have any thoughts?

Montreux has a jazz festival (if you're into that) in late June/early July, depending on when you're travelling. Geneva is pretty, but of the two Montreux is prettier and smaller (IMHO). Although Geneva is worth a look, if the weather is fine the lake sparkles (when do Swiss lakes not sparkle?! ;D).
It's not in the direction your wanting to go, but I'm a big fan of Luzern/Lucerne as everywhere you look is like the front of a chocolate box. It's a compact city and easy to get around, accommodation can be a bit expensive though (again, Switzerland!).
Zermatt is another beautiful place, although it's again not exactly in the direction you're wanting to travel.

I really liked Lucerne as well. Found Geneva a bit boring, to be honest!

Was trying to be diplomatic ;D, but yes, boring is a good way to describe Geneva!
