I will be tarveling to Europe next summer for 3 weeks (21 days) and I would LOVE to know what you more experienced travelers think of this preliminary itinerary and if it's possible!
(not in order) Amsterdam - 2 days Berlin - 2 days Munich - 1 day Rome - 3/4 days Veince - 2 days Florence - 2 days Salzburg/Innsbruck/Vienna - 3 days Prague - 1/2 days
I have tried to include extra days for traveling, as we'll be doing most traveling at night to save time/money and still have a few days - 2 I think - to spare. We are planning on getting open-ended airline tickets so we can fly into one city and out of another. ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

wow, that's a lot of cities! ok, my first question is what do you plan to do/see in these cities? if you're there to do the tourist/sightseeing mode then you might want to extend your time in the big cities like Berlin. there are tons of stuff that is worth seeing. it is a very good idea to go for an open-jaw ticket. this will save you time and money. in my opinion you could see these cities in this order: amsterdam, berlin, munich, prague, vienna (salzburg, innsburck, etc.), venice, florence, then rome. if you do this you can fly into london then take a flight to amsterdam then fly out of rome at the end. this might save you money since london is a major airline hub with cheap flights to the continent. i bought the same type of ticket then flew to paris on easyjet which cost around $50. this saved us about $200 by flying to london instead of paris. hope what i said made sense. hehe!! hope my advice was helpful....

Get rid of Munich and Prague. If you can only do 1 day in both of these then it's hardly worth going there. Also, as rchua said, you may be better doing more of a linear route, rather than looping back.
As you've still got a while before your trip why not try and extend it? 3 weeks for this kind of itinerary is cutting it a bit short - you'd be better off with an extra week or so.

celine6, to add to what the others have posted, your Itinerary seems a bit "busy" for a three week trip. Unless you can extend the length of your trip somewhat as Muvver suggested, it might be advisable to reduce the number of cities and extend the time in the others. This will undoubtedly provide a more enjoyable and stress free vacation for you. Even if you're mostly travelling at night, it's a good idea to budget some additional time for travel to account for "unexpected" events. I couldn't tell from your profile where you're located, but keep in mind that if travelling from North America, you'll lose your first day in travel. Add jet lag to that and your first stop in Amsterdam will pretty much be wasted. For a trip of that duration, your plan to use "open jaw" tickets is a good move. That will same you the time and expense of returning to your starting point. I assumed you were referring to "open jaw" with your reference to "open ended" in your post ("open ended" is something else again). As the others suggested, planning a linear and logical route is the most efficient method. I would have chosen a slightly different route: - Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Munich - Venice - Florence - Rome Once you finalize your travel route, plug all the details into www.railsaver.com to find out which rail pass option it recommends. Using budget flights might be an option on some routes? Finally, you might want to send a PM to one of the Moderators to get this post moved to the "Pre Travel Planning" section, as you might get more replies. Hope this helps. Happy planning!!!
