Hey . I will be going to Italy in August and am planning on staying in the western half for about a week. Any suggestions on cities to visit that are good for sun and sand, nightlife or to just chill out. Thanks

Matt004, I see that you've navigated over to the country/city advice for you trip - nice one!
Italy is full-on during August as not only the rest of Europe vacations here, but Italians take their Summer holidays then too, so places like Rimini, Ancona and Ravenna are jumping. You say you'll be in the "western" half, so I'm taking that you'll be around the Mediterranean. San Remo, Cinque Terra and Livorno all fulfill your brief of "sun, sand and nightlife", but will be jam packed, so accom could be an issue, even at this stage. San Remo (actually Sanremo) often has concerts featuring Italian and international acts during Summer. It's great to be at, but again the accom becomes a nightmare.
My advice would be to look at accommodation in the places that interest you and base your choice of city on that.
