Has anyone here ever been to both Zagreb and Krakow? Or at least one and can give me some input?
3 days will basically be spent in either Zagreb (or another big Croatian city), Budapest or Krakow. I originally wanted to see Poland and Auschwitz but lately have thought more about Zagreb.
Interests: Sights (physical like churches, monuments, etc.), museums (war, military, civilization, science...almost anything, even art here and there), town squares (love them, I know Krakow's is supposed to be great)...stuff like that.
Can anyone give me some feedback, especially concerning Zagreb v Krakow - input on Budapest is welcome.

Budapest is an incredible city. It's by far my favourite city in Central Europe. However, if you're looking at history it's probably best visiting Kraków. There's so much history there, especially with Auschwitz (so, so, so worth visiting - make sure you make it to Birkenau though) and Wieliczka (Salt Mines), as well as with the Solidarity movement against the Communists in the 1980s.
Overall, personally, I'd rate it Kraków, Budapest and Zagreb in that order. Budapest especially is well worth a visit, but I'd argue that Kraków is more 'worthy' of a visit, especially if it's your first time in this region, even more so if you're interested in 20th Century history. If you're more interested in the Hapsburg era then Budapest may be more for you.

Both are a beauty... but Krakow is definitely number one for me. Perhaps that's because I love history so much, and Krakow has definitely got that... as Muvverrussia said.

I was in Krakow back in 1996 and it was a truly epic and beutiful city. From the Wawel Castle with kings tombs, to dinner in the Old Town Square. It totally gets my vote.

Skip Zagreb if you have the choice between the three. It is cool. but the others are much better. But if you are going to go think about these waterfalls Plitvic (something like this) lake. They are awsome. They are about 2 hours away and you can go by bus or hitchhike in Croatia very easily. Don't miss Budapest, it makes me think that this city is now what Prague used to be. Before it cleaned up only the tourist areas and thought that would make it a great place to be. Maybe think about going to Sarejevo. That might be the best city I have been to yet. Hope this helps and in Zagreb stay at a place called Buzz. It is close to the train station and near to all. Plus the guys who run it a very cool when I stayed there a year ago. Good Luck
