Hey guys, im new to this forum. So, me and my friend are planning a trip to Europe for next summer and well, since its still one year in advance, we're still trying to figure out what countries to visit and the idea of going to Russia came to mind. We would like some general information on what are the best cities in this country to visit besides some advice on currency, places to stay and such... thanks for your time

mexicanpito, first of all, welcome to the Boards! I have a few comments concerning your travel plans.
I don't have a lot of information on travelling in Russia, and I suspect that's true of most of us here. It's not really a "tourist friendly" destination at this time. I believe that it's still mandatory for anyone travelling there to first have an "invitation". The invitation can be provided by Hotels in Russia from what I've heard. This is separate from any specific Visa requirements that you might have, based on your country of residence.
I've heard that St. Petersburg is a great destination, and I'll be able to provide further information on that in a month or so, as one of my colleagues from work will be travelling there soon. Moscow would probably be very interesting, but it is perhaps the MOST expensive city in the world, so be prepared to bring lots of cash!
The eastern European countries are just beginning to "open up" to tourism, and I don't think they have as many tourist facilities in place yet as the western European countries. You might find it easier to travel in Bulgaria, Poland, Romania or similar countries. The Czech Republic is always a favourite destination! Of course, you might also need a Visa for some/all of those countries based on your country of residence.
Due to the difficulties of travelling in Russia, I suspect it's not a place that any of us will be going to in the near future.
Good luck with your travel plans.

Russia's always been pretty high on my list. It's a nightmare (comparatively so) to get a visa and is expensive, especially in Moscow and St Petersburg though. I think you can get a similar experience by visiting the likes of Prague, Riga, Kiev (they really relaxed their border requirements last year, it's fairly cheap too) etc.
