I have a day and a half to spend in Austria and I'm just wondering whether or not I should go to Salzburg or Innsbruck? Any input on the two would be much appreciated. As well, I have 2 nights to spend in Switzerland and was trying to figure out which city would be more enjoyable to visit between Zurich and Geneva. Any thoughts?

i've only been to innsbruck and i loved it. both cities are supposed to be fantastic. i guess i'd say whichever is most convenient.
as for switzerland, i've only been to zurich which was cool. never been to geneva.

it depends on your interests. Saltzburg is a lovely small city. Innsbruck is more of a mountain town and has fab scenery.
in Switzerland between Zürich and Genf: there are lots of places! if you've got extra cash, the Junfraujoch railway is one of the true wonders of the world. (but, it isn't cheap!) <eurail pass is no good there>
Luzern is in that area - Interlaken isn't far, either. Basel is nice. i've read here that Bern isn't bad - never been. like Julie, i've also never been to Genf.

I'll put in a vote for Innsbruck, just because the scenery was so awesome. I enjoyed visiting the smaller towns (Igls) and all the olympic sites up in the mountains as well.
If you're more into the arts/music/museum scene, Salzburg might be a better bet; but if you want to be wow-ed by Alps, go to Innsbruck.

I will put in a vote in favour of Salzburg. To visit it is really a very compact town, so you could do it in fact in one day. The fortress above the city is really beautiful, and it gives you a great view on the city from above.
If you have still a little bit of time left you could go to a little town called Werfen (it's a little bit further to the south, and is really in the mountain-region), that is pretty near to Salzburg(40 minutes by train), which has a beautiful old castle on top of a rock, and you would also have the opportunity to visit Eisriesenwelt (which is a ice-cave, mind you: it's cold inside)
If you go for scenery, I agree with the others, then go to Innsbruck. (or if you have the possibility, go to the Hohe Tauern region, esp. if you are into hiking e.g Zell am See or Kaprun).
On another note: It has been really bad weather the last weeks in the Alps, and I'm not sure that it will become a lot better the coming week(s), so if you are leaving very soon prepare for some rainy days, and make sure to have some alternatives. From my own experience in Austria, once the weather is bad, it usually can stay that way for a long time.
