depends on what you want to do there. If you like to go hiking (or just to see something of the hills). As a town it is worth a short visit, but I wouldn't stay there for a couple of days. If you want to stay on the southside of the Alps. Brig could be an alternative. This way you could take the train to Sion for a daytrip, but also take some time to see the Aletsch-gletscher. (the longest-gletscher in the Alps).
If you want to stay on the southside of the Alps, Zermatt could also be an alternative.

As Herrbert states, it's pretty enough for an overnight stop, but not for a long stay. Have a look at the other places he's suggested (particularly Zermatt), or if it's just as an overnight on the way to Italy, consider travelling a little further to the Lakes district and stay on Lake Como (Lago di Como) on the Italian side, or Locarno in Switzerland.

Well I am really looking for something off the tourist path with great scenery in the alps or locarno looks amazing after looking it up. I just want to take a couple days to enjoy some amazing scenery after being in London and Paris and before I move on to the cities of Italy.
