going to europe this summer, late july-early august... i've changed my itinerary so many times already! my friend heard about ibiza through another friend and we've decided it's a place we want to go to... taking the ferry from barcelona to ibiza. yes we know its a 10 hour ride, but we love sailing so it'll be fun to be on the sea for a while. now my question: there seem to be two different, popular places - san antonio and ibiza town. which one would be better? we like bars and clubs (altho not *so* much), beaches, and stuff like that. we're in our mid-20s. would anyone on this board know more about ibiza - how long to stay, where to stay, etc? i tried looking for old posts but no one seemed to mention ibiza. hope i can get some help here! thanks in advance!

As far as I know - and I would get some one to check this - San Antonio is the party side of the island. It has the bars and clubs. It is the ultimate med party island is that is what you are looking for. But beware prices are HIGH in peak season.

There have been a few posts (late last year) about Ibiza. As crystal pointed out, Ibiza is expensive in the high season. In particular the clubs and drinks. That said, Ibiza Town is a little cheaper in accommodation than that in San Antonio as it's the clubbing epicentre, but there is transport: taxis or "discobus". Figueteras is about 15mins from Ibiza Town, but it's not the greatest of areas. Otherwise a lot of people stay at Playa den Bossa. As you're going in the height of Summer, you'll find everything pumping but you'll need to book accommodation as soon as possible. There's a place called Hostel La Marina - I've not stayed there, but it's a good location from all accounts (friends stayed there), otherwise have a look at Hostel World or even Venere.com. There's a great vibe in Summer, but just remember the clubs cost on average Euro50 to get in. Make sure you join the crowds for the obligatory sunset at Cafe del Mar and you'll get the feeling of the island.
You can fly or ferry to Ibiza, depends on what takes your fancy. Flying from Barcelona to Ibiza - Iberian Air or Spanair are two local ones. Prices seem to be around Euro50-80 and it takes just under an hour direct. There are a few other airlines (eg Air Berlin) that fly via another town. The ferry choices range from slow (9.5 hrs) to fast (4.5hrs) Ferries run from Barcelona to San Anotonio port. As long as you're aware of the time it takes (and like sailing!) then you'll be fine.

Vueling Airlines also fly Barcelona to Ibiza (and back if you want), prices vary, between 36 for the early morning/late in the evening flight to,46 or 56 euros. (some random dates in July). Prices incl. taxes.
