4 Months Through 2 Seasons?

Right, so I'm less than a week away for my departure to Europe until 11 July through Scandinavia, Central Europe & Eastern Europe. I've a little(?!) list sitting infront of me that I'd love to get some opinion on. It'll be just me, my Karrimor Global 75-90L rucksack & my camera. I do prefer to do my shopping in Europe as far as clothing goes so I've budgeted for it & am going to do my best to limit what I take over.

Clothing:
-Underwear x7 -Socks x7 -P.Js -Sandals -Light Shirts x3
-RAB Waterproof trousers & gloves -Shorts -Midweight jumper
-Montane Waterproof Jacket -Fleece -Merrell trainers -Longjohns

Toiletties
-Toothpaste/toothbrush -Comb - Deoderant -Nail Clippers
-Hair wax -Shaver/shaving ceam -Towel -Shampoo/soap -Advil/few medicare supplies

Books
-LP Scandinavian Europe -LP Eastern Europe -LP Western Europe -Thomas Cook European Rail Sch. -Writing Journal

Documents
-Passport -Travel Insurance -HI Card -YVR ID Pass (Photo ID) -Drivers License -Hostel/Flight reservations -Debit x2/Visa Cards -Eurail Pass

Electronics
-Canon 20D + 10-20mm & 17-85mm Lens -Travel Tri-pod -Camera batteries x3 / recharger -iPod (acting as photo storage space too) -EU + UK plug converter things

Accessories
-Water bottle -Compass -Sleep sheet -Ear Plugs -Alarm Clock -Locks (for rucksack) -Pens -Playing Cards -Sewing Kit (for country patches as I go)


Oh my gosh, why does this list seem so huge now!

If you have received emails to flights, and hostelreservations, you can leave them in your email, or create an extra (hotmail)account, and put them there (together with a copy of your document (scan), so you always have an accesible copy standing-by.

I use hotmail, because all mails are accesible, my normal mail only let's me see, the new mail.

speedbird, your list looks fairly complete, although I tend to travel with a bit more. A few questions though:

- only one pair of trousers?

- just curious, is your wide angle Lens a 10-20 or the Canon 10-22 (that's what I travel with now, and found I use it considerably more than I thought I would)? BTW, I find the 17-85 to be a great "walkabout Lens". I also had a 70-300 IS USM DO Lens with me, but didn't use it as much as anticipated. Still, I was glad it was available if needed.

- I didn't see any mention in your accessories list for a Money Belt (unless I missed it, it's late - highly recommended by Rick Steves)?

- on my last trip to Europe, I found that a Water Bottle was just about useless and was a nuisance to pack around. I found that buying bottled water worked out best, especially with the new rules for airport security. I won't be taking one on my next trip.

- you didn't list any communications options? Does that mean you'll be using phone cards or whatever to keep in touch with family & friends back home? (I ALWAYS travel with my trusty Cell Phone - I don't leave home without it!).

Yeah, just re-thinking a bit of it - I think Imma take a second pair of trousers, as the ones I will be taking for sure are just eVent shell trousers, so I'll take one slightly warmer pair as well so I can loose the longjohns on occasion.

And, well! I'm absolutely chuffed to hear you found you used your fisheye more than you expected - and seems we've a very similiar set up, as I will indeed take the 17-85, however I'm going to skip on the 70-300mm as it's a fair bit of extra weight - and while I'm sure there will be instances where I wish I had it, I think I'll let it go.

Also, very interesting to note you found the waterbottle to be a bit useless . Great advise though, and will definitely take you up on that. I did forget to list my money belt, took it last time and loved it and will be again, of course. However, I'm ditching the mobile And couldn't be happier to do so, haha.
