Hi....im traveling through europe for a month starting in London....eurostar tickets are running about $79, but we've heard that there are cheap plane tickets for about $40 or so from London to Paris....is this true? what is the fastest and cheapest way to get to paris? or should we just buy the eurostar tickets?

The following companies offer very cheap flights from European cities to other European cities: RyanAir (http://www.ryanair.com or EasyJet (http://www.easyjet.com) or Europe By air www.europebyair.com. After you visit those sites, come back here and post what you find to help out others who read this thread.

3 hours? Where you get that figure from? It's around 1.5 hours by bus. 70 CAN$ is some 45 US$, isn't it? Add to that 18 pounds for Heathrow to Stansted bus, and 8 Euro for train or bus from airport to city in Paris, and it's the same as Eurostar, which is faster and hassle-free.

is 3 hours if you want to go the cheapest way, heathrow to Victoria station by tube which is 3.50 pounds and then Victoria Station to Steamsted airport by bus, another 12 pounds,
i'll be on the plane for 7 hours , i didnt want to travel another 8 on the bus to get to Paris your choice

I don't get it... if you fly to London and go straight to Paris... won't it be better to fly directly to Paris? Don't you want to see London?

London to Stansted by bus is only 8 pounds, but it takes 1.5 hour from Victoria to Stansted. Going this way will be 6.5 pounds cheaper than direct bus to Stansted, but take an hour longer. You better catch the bus at Hyde Park Corner, so you don't need to change tube lines. Be aware, though, that not all buses stop at Hyde Park Corner. Perhaps you Better change to Jubilee line at Green Park and go to Finchley Road, or change at Leicester Square to Nortern line to Golders Green. It takes just 1 hour from Golders Green to Stansted, 10 minutes more from Finchley Road. Not sure if it will really save you time.

Now... let's see how train and plane compare... Going by Eurostar: Cost: Train London to Paris 75$ with a valid rail pass, or 79$ youth fare. Heathrow to London Waterloo by tube 3.5 pounds = 5$. Alltogether 80-84$. Time: 1 hour Heathrow to London by tube, half-hour check-in, 3 hours by train to Paris-Nord. Alltogether 4.5 hours. Going by plane: Cost: Plane ticket 45$, tube+bus 11.5 pounds = 17$, RER to Paris 8 Euro = 7$. Alltogether 69$. If you take the direct bus to Stansted it's 9$ more. Time: 2.5-3 hours transfer by tube+bus, 1 hour check-in, 1 hour flight, 1 hour check out + RER to Paris. Alltogether 5.5-6 hours. With direct bus only 4.5 hours.
Basically, you save up to 15$, but does it worth it? And these are minimum connection times, you must allow more time to be on the safe side.

First of all london was the cheapest flight, Toronto- London, dont care much for london just because its so expensive. i fly into london 7:30 am and fly out of stanstead at 2:30pm get to paris 4:00pm. if i was to go by bus or by rail and ferry to cross the channel to paris, i would get there about 8pm or so, thats if i was to catch ferry on time.

I bet you also fly out of London... in that case, the return trip to Paris will cost you at least 124$ if youfind a return flight at the same price. How much did you save on the flight to London vs flight to Paris?
I believe you don't do a smart thing to leave London in a hurry... a day or 2 will not break your budget... If your flight arrives on time, you would arrive central London by 9AM... I would suggest that you check your backpack at a train station (Victoria would be suitable) and take a walk around for 2 hours, or better go by bus, until it's time to take the bus to Stansted.

You could take the bus to Paris at 10.30 and get there at 19.15. The bus cost 29 pounds if you are under 26. You should not be worried about catching a ferry - it is integrated with the bus. Another option, which will save you a night at a pricy London hostel, is to travel by bus overnight. Thus having an entire day to see London in a breese.

I'm in the same position as the first person that wrote, wondering about the train/ plane/ bus to Paris from London. Which bus company offers tickets for 29 pounds? I've been trying to figure the best/ cheapest way to get there and I'm finding it rather confusing. Thanks! Alexis
