anyone know any tricks for getting cheap flights? has anyone ever used airhitch?
i've heard conflicting info about airhitch. the website, airhitch.com, sez that airhitchers can fly from almost any major airport. but, i've only heard of people flying from NYC on an airhitch voucher.
i'd rather not go to NYC first. i'm in dallas, a *BIG* airport.

Have you tried BestFares.com? They look like they have a bunch of deals on from Dallas to Europe for the off season. The only drawback is that most of the tickets look like they only allow you to stay a month. (Not sure how long you are going for) For example, you can fly Dallas to one of these cities; Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Brussels and Zurich roundtrip with a free stopover in London for $365. With that fare though, you have to travel between March 14 and return by April 13, 2002. It's worth checking out though. www.bestfares.comKim

i thought that tom parsons site required that one "join" in order to buy from them. aren't dues for that rather steep?

That's something to look into-I didn't realize you had to pay membership dues. I've just noticed a fair amount of reasonably priced flights.
I just checked it out-it looks like $59.90 for USA or $79.90 USD for Canada.
I'm not a big fan of "pay to join" websites though, so I don't know...

Hi, I 'belonged' to BestFares for a couple of years. Dropped it because I personally didn't find it worth the fees at all. Way over half of his 'tips' are ways to get 'free' FF miles if you use this card or that product, or buy '500 jars of jelly' or something and get a free ticket.....his actual fares are no better, no worse generally than you can find in loads of other free sites. I can't recommend the cost for the value offered.

It's good to have a first hand experience-thanks, Ginger! Like I said, when you have to pay to join something-it better be d**n good!

That just cracked me up-the board censored me, and it's my damn board! I just realized it had automatic sensoring-needless to say, I think we can all handle the word "damn" and so I've taken the censor off that one!

hey Ginger!
what are those other sites you refer to? the ones that have tix as cheap as bestfares?
one thing about bestfares.com, Tom Parsons lives in Metro-Dallas, lots of his fares are oriented toward flights from DFW.
I just hate the idea of paying a fee just to have the right to buy there. like, i've only had sam's club memberships when my employers have paid for it!

Apparently Hotwire has good prices on flights-from what I read on another board. www.hotwire.comYou have to leave from a US city though, so it doesn't help us Canadians. Those of you that are in the US, has anyone used Hotwire before? What did you think? Kim

Well.....I got my tickets for this trip through travel team, open jaw for 4 months, arrive London and leave Paris for $350 plus tax. Some of the best low price sites are: www.travelteam.comwww.justfares.comwww.flights.comwww.farebeater.comCan't take any credit for 'discovering' them though. Got tipped onto them by "Don" on the Eurotrip boards...the man is a total genius with airfares! Look for the consolidators for anything overseas. Or bucket shops within Europe. They are especially 'friendly' toward longer stay tickets. Most things you can find through the airlines themselves or places like Expedia or Travelocity or even Hotwire or Priceline have a 30 day return time span. If you want to stay longer than that, with sites like these you will pay through the nose! ginger

Ginger,
I just checked out TravelTeam.com... it looks like they are offering RT tickets from Seattle to Paris for about $550 each! Am I reading this right or is this too good to be true??? Delta tickets are $1250 each....that's like all 5 of us flying with Travel team for the same price as 2 on Delta.
If this is true, they just earned another customer!
