I'm travelling for just over 5 weeks and plan to let my rail pass run out while I'm in Greece. I will be spending my last few days in Rome which is where my flight departs. What is the cheapest/most expediant way to get to Rome? I hear this is a lengthy trip. I've looked into several flights that cost about $330 CAN with Olympic as I realize flying would be the fastest route although I'm hesitant to book it incase my plans change. Should I wait until I get there to arrange this last transportation?

Why would your rail pass expire? Which pass is it?

I'm only getting a one month rail pass because I figure that the next option would be to extend the rail pass, get a short flexi pass or a one way ticket back to rome........... not really sure how I will do it but the last week 10-12 days will be spent in Greece and Rome only therefore my biggest conern is getting back to Rome. Any suggestions on how I should do this efficiently? Is a one month only rail pass a good idea? I can't decide what would be the best means of transportation with 5 1/2 weeks of travel? Would love your help!

We ended up flying from Rome to Athens as that trip via ferry was too time consuming for us. Unfortunately, no budget airlines do that flying so that flight with Olympic is probably your best bet.
A railpass in Greece is kind of a joke, you won't really use it so it's fine if it runs out there. Are you going to the islands? If so, it's all via ferry and hydrofoils anyway.
A tip-don't budget many days for Athens, get out as fast as you can and head for the islands. 2 days at the most. Trust me on this one!
I personally would go for the flight. At the end of your trip, it will be way nicer to fly. If you are willing to gamble paying a bit more and not having exactly the day you want, you could always wait until you were in Athens to book the flight. I think that is a flight that is flown pretty regularly.

I have no idea of your other travel plans so can make no comment on transport products.

FYO... 10-days Eurail flexi pass is some 150$ cheaper than one-month Eurail pass... and if you travel in 5 countries or less, Selectpass is even cheaper... Eurail pass is good deal if you use it more than 15 days in a month... do you plan to travel that much?

Yes, actually I plan on travelling through Germany, Paris, Austria and Switzerland as well so I believe the one month Eurorail pass will be my best bet so I don't need to limit my travel by any means.
Thanks for the advice ;D
