Train fares - Italy

I am going on a 3 week backpacking trip to Italy.
How much should I budget for travelling (by bus or train)around the country?

I do not wish to purchase a train pass as I hear point to point tickets would be cheaper the less you travel.

I intend to go from Rome to Florence, Verona, Clique Terre, Pisa and Pompei

Any info would be appreciated!
