Italy to Berlin

Hi!

I'm going to be studying abroad this summer in Florence and Berlin, and since the two programs have a weeklong gap between them, I'm thinking of doing some travel within Italy.

My question: Where should I end my little weeklong trek so that catching a train to Berlin would not be impossibly difficult or long?

There's no direct train from Italy to Berlin.

I would suggest to fly. Air Berlin flies Rome-Berlin for about 100 Euro.
