Does anyone have advice on the best way to get to the Greek Island Corfu from Italy? Where is the best departure by ferry and roughly how much money should one budget for the ferry ride?

I'm just being nosey here but when are you going Gerry? I'll be making my way from Italy to Corfu around June 18th and I'm wondering the same thing......... how and where to leave from.
I'll still have a few days left on my rail pass so I'm not sure if specific ferries offer discounts with it?

If you have a Eurrail pass, the ferry between Corfu to Brindisi is free. From Brindisi, you can take a train to other parts of Italy with your rail pass. And I would recommend doing it in a hurry, as there is not much in Brindisi.

Well, conincidently I will be in Italy from the 1st till the 18th of June. The only info I have got so far is a ferry which leaves brindisi for a 9 hour journey for about 25 euros one way.

Very My plans aren't set in stone but that is the approx. date I would like to be travelling to Corfu. Are you heading to the Pink Palace? I plan to spend 4-5 days there and then make my way to Santorini where I will then fly back to Rome via Athens (I hope) Does anyone know how long or how many ferries the trip from Corfu to Santorini is? I may consider flying there as well to save time. Well Gerry - I'm Kelly maybe we'll meet in our travels..... it's a small world ! Take care!

Hi NFL Queen,
First of all, I would highly recommend shortening your stay at the Pink Palace, unless you are very into the American Frat Party scene. If you want to enjoy some great nightlife, leave Corfu earlier and spend more time in Santorini. Also, the nearby island of Eos is so much more fun than Corfu. Life on the island is simple: go out all night and relax all day on the beach. The crowd is very international and a much better experience in my humble opinion.
As for ferries, you cannot get to Santorini directly from Corfu. First you must take the ferry from Corfu to Patras. From there, you can take a train to Athens (actually, the port of Piraeus) where you can catch another ferry to Eos or Santorini. Piraeus to Santorini takes quite a while, about 8 hours if I remember correctly. Corfu to Patras is also about 8-10 hours, so if you can get a cheap flight, you will save yourself plenty of time.
Have a great trip! Ray

Thanks Big Ray ;D Wonderful advice, that being the scene I'm quite sure only a couple of days will send me on my way to Santorini and yes I've heard Eos is also a great place to visit. From what I've seen domestic flights within Greece are quite reasonable...... so that will most likely be my route. Is it worth my time to spend a whole day in Athens? I know everyone says to make it a quick stay but should I at least attmept to plan one day there? Thanks again

Though Athens is far from my favorite place, it definitely deserves at least a day. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe, and there is plenty to see. Though the modern city leaves much to be desired, seeing the Acropolis above the city is like going back in time. I have had a great time wandering through the Plaka and having dinner and drinks as well.
Have fun! Ray

A better way to travel between Korfu and Athens is by bus. The Pink Palace has a bus service to Athens, or you can take the public bus. It takes about 10 hours, with 2 short ferry crossings (included in the ticket price).
