Our itinerary from Nice previously was
Nice Cassis San Seb Barcelona Valencia then Madrid (because we fly out of Madrid on the 28th of May)
But my bf said that maybe it would be better to go to Barcelona straight from Nice and go from there.
The thing is...we fly out of Madrid so from Nice, what would you do? Any suggestions?
Thank you

that train ride from nice to barcelona is very long.....i took it last summer....and i dont think there is a direct train anymore fro what i read in a previous post...we were on the train from about 9pm till 1pm the next day.....breaking it up would be the best way to go in my opinion....from valencia its not a terribly long ride to madrid(maybe 4 hours?!?)....but im can't remember exactly!

Yeah, I think your first route would end up being better.
Maybe go to raileurope.com and use the Fares and Schedules section to see how long each route would end up being.
As far as San Seb. goes, you will have to change trains at the border of France and Spain, which is 19k away from San Seb. and take a small local train. I believe the border stop is Hendaye, if I remember correctly.
If you want to avoid the long train ride, you can fly-Nice to Barcelona is about $135 each one way with Virgin Express. If you can afford it, go for it as it's only a 2 hour flight. Take into consideration that you be paying extra to reserve a couchette or sleeper car on a 12 hour ride.

Never been to Carcassone, but spent a couple good days in Montpellier, France, which is on the way. It was a really pretty city, though small, but is was special to me because I met a lot of cool people there.
It is very pretty, though, and not very expensive and definitely a pleasureful stop. That said, I don't think you can go wrong along the south of France.
Enjoy, Ray

Kim Does Virgin Express fly DIRECTLY Nice-Barcelona? IIRC, all their flights have transfer in Brussels, and it would take much more than 2 hours...
Also, IIRC, you can take a night train from Nice to Port Bou on France-Spain border, then a 2-3 hours Spanish train to Barcelona. Or a day train with a change at Montpellier.
