I know that with a selectpass if I leave on a night train after 7:00pm and arrive the next day I can put the next days date on the pass. But I am wondering if I was to take the night train after 7 and have to change trains before midnight, would I end up having to put both dates on the pass (using up 2 travel days) because that first leg didn't extend into the next day?

Which ride are you considering doing this for? I'll look into it for you.

There were a couple of trips that i was looking at that were like this but one example was Amsterdam to Berlin on july 19. I checked on bahn.de and the only direct trips they had left at 07:13, 11:13, or 15:13. All the overnight trips had to change trains, and they all had to change trains before midnight exept one.

A journey that ends before midnight belong to the SAME day, not the next one. If you don't want to use that day on your pass, you should pay for it.

Good point! just because you have a pass, that doesn't mean you must use it for all of your train travel. if it's more efficient to pay cash for a segment, do it! But certainly don't, if it means you'll end up with an extra day on your pass at the end of your trip. (that happened to me once) - d A journey that ends before midnight belong to the SAME day, not the next one. If you don't want to use that day on your pass, you should pay for it.
