youth point-to-point tickets

Danielle asked this question in another thread, but it was never answered. Do youth point-to-point tickets exist? And can you buy them from automatic machines? How much cheaper are they than normal point-to-point tickets?

I don't know about other countries BUT..........

in France youth point-to-point tickets do exist. You have to purchase however a special youth discount card in order to be eligible.

I think the card costs like 50 Euros and it's valid for a year. It entitles you to discounts subject to avilability. To some places and stuff you can get 50% off tickets!! So in theory it could pay for itself in just one journey.

For the French rail system you should check out the following website: www.voyages-sncf.com

Granted it's in French but you could probably manage without knowing French and a little help from the Altavista translation.

They have crazy sales sometimes that are not going to be advertised anywhere else!

They also have an English site but it's MUCH less informative (click on the flag of the U.K).
It will provide info on the youth card and you can also look up timetables and prices. It doesn't, unlike the French one, advertise the sales but you might just happen to stumble upon one!

As far as Germany -- I can't help you there but maybe someone else can!

Not any that I know of, but they have the BahnCard, which is about 50-60 euro last time I checked and it gives you about the same advantages as the France card mentionned above, also, in Germany, the more in advance you plan and buy your ticket, the more you save, it's called Plan&Save!

Youth discounts are available everywhere for INTERNATIONAL travel. However, for domestic travel the terms vary in different countries.
