Whats the best way to get from Amsterdam to St. Petersburg? I'd like to fly and wouldn't mind stopping in Sweden or Germany on the way to St. Petersburg. TIA

I would fly. It would be a VERY long train ride otherwise. If you do take a train though, most trains go through the Ukraine, and transit visas from there are really difficult to get. Try and route through Belarus instead, as their transit visas are much easier to come by.
I'm not sure where you're from, but remember you will probably need a tourist visa to enter and leave Russia so it's wise to book everything through a travel agent and allow at least 2 weeks.
If you want to see Sweden you could ferry from there to Finland and then take a train from Finland. If you want to see Germany, fly to St. Pete's.

Ok, I was pretty much expecting to fly there, are there any cheap airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet that could fly either from Amsterdam to St. Petersburg or fly at least fly from Sweden or Germany to St. Petersburg?
