Looking at easyJet.com for fares, i see flights from Madrid to Luton, landing at 12.20. but, flights to Rome, where i wanna go, are out of Stansted at 15.40, should be checked in by 13.40. Does it take long to get between these airports?

Luton and Stansted are too far apart to get from one to the other in an hour and twenty minutes (maybe by helicopter).
N's question is a good one.

can you suggest a better way to get from Madrid to Rome at a low price? easyjet flys from Madrid to London (Luton & Gatwick) from EU 16.99 and from London-Stansted to Rome for 11.99 Sterling. Plus fees & taxes, of course. Virgin Express, would fly me, i think - i can't download the website now - for EU 150, plus fees & taxes, via Brussels. Honestly, if you can suggest a better way, I'm all ears! an unfortunate metaphor, given this medium. How about, "I'm all eyes!" by no means am i wedded to the idea of flying via London. just can't find another way - at a reasonable price. If y'all know of a better way, please tell me! BTW, i find that National Express has coach service between the airports, but the schedule doesn't quite fit - d What's the wisdom of flying via London???

am trying to figure a way fom La Coruna, NW Spain, to Rome. my 1st plan was to train through Eastern Spain & Southern France, then to Rome while seeing things on the way.
Next, my thinking was to train to Madrid, fly to London and then fly to Rome taking cheap flights on EasyJet. After all, "the train from Spain is slower than the plane." * Appologies to Prof Henry Higgens. ;D
But, Nit asked: "What's the wisdom in flying via London?"
This question makes me ask if there is a better way to get between Spain and Rome other than to fly via London. I've looked, maybe i'm not looking in the right places.
If anyone knows a better way, please tell me!
* Kudos to all who catch the "My Fair Lady" pun.

Virgin flights are indid not as cheap as Easy Jet and the like... but you don't need to change airports and you have guarantied connection at Brussels. If you fly Virgin, you can choose between flights out of Madrid or Lisbon, which I believe are about the same distance from La Coruna. If you don't mind overland travel on the Italian side, Volare can fly you directly from Spain to Italy. Beginning in December, they will fly to Rome, but until then you can only fly to milano or Venezia. Prices start from 67 EUR Madrid-Venice or 76 EUR Bilbao-Milano. w3.volareweb.com/en/index.html

Thanks, Nitsanch! i could take the train to Bilbao, which i was thinking about anyway, so i could fly in & out of the same London airport. Bilbao is a 12 hour train ride <ouch!> from La Coruna, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! there's a North Spain train line called Feve which i need to look into. it's said to be a beautiful ride! but, the website is in Spainish. this makes it hard for me to figgure out. since my flight to Rome isn't until after Easter '04 - going to Spain for Semana Santa - the December start date isn't a problem. - d If you don't mind overland travel on the Italian side, Volare can fly you directly from Spain to Italy. You can have no idea what flights will be available in spring, so making travel plans is useless at this point.
Where are you going to visit in Semana Santa?

true, things change. but, the best indicator of what will happen in the future is what has happened in the past. and, i'm one of those anal guys who likes to have firm ideas in mind and make a framework plan fairly early. right now, my plan is to try to go to Seville (on my own) for Palm Sunday, Santiago de Compostela for Good Friday, and possibly Zamora (per your sugestion) for Easter Sunday. much depends on what my hosts in La Coruna want to do. They seem to be pushing Santiago, which is close to them. [as i've read that the Rias at Vigo is very beautiful, i'll possibly go there between Palm Sunday and Good Friday] and, i know that hostels in Spain will be hard to get for Semana Santa, that's another reson why i want to reserve early. Again, thanks Nitsanch! you're a great help! And, i welcome any other suggestions. From you or, from anyone else! - d You can have no idea what flights will be available in spring, so making travel plans is useless at this point. Where are you going to visit in Semana Santa?
