This is a cautionary note, not really against online ticket buying, but ticket buying in general.
My friend phoned ITravel2000 and asked about a Zoom ticket (YVR-LGW) in July. They told her this was not available, and that the cheapest was Air Transat. She gave them her credit card number, asked them to hold, and ITravel2000 told her that she would have to send faxed confirmation back to have her VISA charged.
Anyway, she found out the next day that ITravel2000 was either mistaken or lying when they said no Zoom tickets were available, as they were - for a rather cheaper price than Air Transat. So she phoned up ITravel2000, cancelled the tentative reservation, and bought the Zoom ticket. This was all done within about two days of departure - her ticket was bought last minute.
She returned Sunday night. Then on Monday morning, she looked at her VISA bill, and what had happened?! ITravel2000 had charged her for the ticket she never bought and never used.
So she is disputing the charge, and I'm hopeful she won't have to pay, as she did not sign any authorization. But what a pain and worry.
I guess the thing to do is go online and check your VISA bill every couple days while you are away. You might find something nasty and unpleasant, but at least you can deal with it right away.
Any ideas on how to deal with this?
