Does anyone know if it's possible to book a flight to Frankfurt originating in either Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto or Seattle, to arrive NO LATER than 5:00 AM. I was hoping to catch the Romantic Road Bus (thought it might be a bit nicer than the train) which leaves at 8:00 AM precisely, but didn't want to waste a night in Frankfurt. From what I have been able to learn, 3 hours should be enough to clear Customs and travel from the Airport into the downtown area. Any suggestions?

Frankfurt was my 'home' airport for 6 years and I do think you could get through the airport and hop on the express bus to town in 3 hours. I have no idea about your flight, sorry, but can tell you that from virtually any airport in the US it seems (I had loads of visitors ) flights generally arrive in the 6-9 am time frame. ging

I think you are setting yourself up if you plan things to such a tight time frame. There's no guarantee the flight would not be delayed, for one thing. I expect flights to be late, for customs lineups to be long, for baggage to take a while to unload, etc.

good advice WT...for any international flight I like a 4 hour 'window' before my next "must be here' event, no matter what that is. ;D He simply asked if it could be done in 3 hours...and in a perfect world, yep, it could. But is travel ever perfect??? LOL

You've certainly raised a good point. I should allow myself lots of time to get from the Airport to the Bus Depot. My time estimates allowed about an hour for flight delays, customs delays, etc. Apparently, the train from the Airport Terminal 1 to the Bus Depot runs 4x / hour and is only a 12-minute ride. I figured that would give me enough time. I was hoping to travel with "carry on" luggage only, so if I can do that there won't be any waits for baggage. However, I'm still left with the problem of finding a flight that arrives in Frankfurt at 04:00 - 05:00. It looks likely that I will have to waste at least part of a night in Frankfurt. Oh well, I guess that's part of the travel experience. Thanks for your comments. Cheers!!!

Eagle, To be on the perfectly safe time table, I'd say if at all possible, arrive the day prior, suck it up and spend the night in Frankfurt and arrive on time with no stress for your bus the next morning. If nothing else, it will allow you some decompression/sleep/rest time before starting out. And trust me....that's a very good thing indeed.

The cheapest carrier from Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto to Frankfurt is often Air Transat, if they are flying when you need to go.
I have heard of lengthy delays occurring with Air Transat, but I haven't experienced anything serious (other than 1/2 hour here or there). However, they definitely don't land prior to 5 AM. At least some flights leaving Vancouver arrive about 5:15 PM in Frankfurt.
