Hey guys! Sorry if I'm posting questions that might already have answers somewhere in the boards. I just don't have time to sort through. I'm new to this message board thing! ANYwho, I need help on getting from Paris to multiple locations. I will be living in Paris for a month and a half. Most Thursday-Sundays I will be taking trips to surrounding countries. I think going by air seems worth the time saved, but I'm having trouble getting the info I need for these destinations, including outgoing flights and trains/buses to get to the smaller cities:
Paris (or nearest airline)-- Figueres, Spain (this is a small city near Barcelona)
Paris- Gimmelwald, Switzerland
Paris- Amsterdam, Netherlands
Paris- Volterra, Italy (small city between Siena and Florence
Paris - Prague
Paris- Bruges, Belgium

Amsterdam and Bruges are easy train rides from Paris. If you consider the time it would take to get to the airport, arrive early to check in, etc, the train makes more sense. Prague feels far from everything and is worth flying. Italy and Spain -- could take night trains or fly. Gimmelwald -- could fly to Geneva or Zurich, but I would probably just take the train. All are great destinations. Have a fabulous trip!

Ryanair offers a flight from Paris to Rome (one way) for 40 Euros plus taxes and fees. The grand total comes to 57.29 Euros which is very good. www.ryanair.com/Kim

Paris--Figueres There is a night train from Paris (the Austerlitz station, I believe) to Barcelona that stops in Figueres at about 5:30 in the morning. Take a look at the night train from Paris to Barcelona to see which ones stop in Figueres.
Paris--Gimmelwald This can be tricky and will definitely involve changing trains. One way I know of is the high speed TGV train from Paris to Geneva, then taking a train to Interlaken Ost. From there, you will have to take a Swiss alpine train (not included on a Eurrail pass) to Lauterbrunnen. Then, you catch a bus from the train station to Stechelberg where you can take the gondola up to Gimmelwald. This is quite a journey and will probably take most of a day if you can get the times to all match up. Once you get to Lauterbrunnen, the trip to Gimmelwald is really easy.
Paris--Prague This is quite a long journey that is probably best done by plane. The only problem is that it is rarely cheap. Both Czech Airlines and Air France fly this route. I am not sure about others. Best to plan this one in advance to get the cheapest fare.
Cheers, Ray

Don't know how old you are but SNCF (the French rail company) has this discount card for people from the ages of 16-25 or something like that. You pay 50 Euros for that but it will easily pay for itself. You are guaranteed 25% off every journey and can often get 50% off. In terms of info I think that has kind of been covered. Other than that I suggest you check out the sncf website and their boutiques once you are in Paris. Also check out Voyages Wasteels when you get to Paris for good deals. And as a light note. I just came back from living in Paris and I (along with my friends) thought we would be traveling every weekend but this did not happen. To be honest it's somewhat unrealistic particularly for places like Gimmelwald and Prague. Not that it can't be done but you have to consider the cost and the fact that it's quite exhausting to do it in such a short amount of time. Not only that but I think you might find that there is SO much you want to do in Paris on the weekends that you simply won't do the traveling. It's totally up to you and either way I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time but it's just something to consider! When are you leaving? I have some Paris recommendations if you want them.
