OK - so I'm thinking of visiting my friend who goes to school in Glasgow right after my final exams end in May & I was wondering, I know I can get cheaper flights into & out of London w/o layovers, so would it be worth it to go into & out of London & then travel to Glasgow either by a budget airline or train, or should I go for a layed-over flight directly into Glasgow for more $$$? Or maybe Edinburgh? I'm just not sure if saving the $$$ would be worth it or not... Anyway, money is an issue (I'm a poor college student!) & the only reason I'm even considering this trip is b/c I know it's probably one of the only times I won't have to worry about lodging costs... THanks so much!

awww... come on guys! I would have thought someone would have replied already! Anyway, so far the cheapest flight I've found is $489 w/ a layover in Chicago. The cheapest direct flight is $620, i believe. So, should I go for convenience or cost? Danielle

Make sure to add in the cost of train/plane there and back and see if you save any money at all. If you don't, or save very little, than go with what you'd prefer. Also depends on how long you're staying. If you're staying for a good amount of time you may want to save the cash and use the longer travel day, but if it's a short visit you probably wouldn't want to waste more time getting there.

I checked on RyanAir and London-Stansted to Glasgow in early May (a guess at when you'd go) was roughly $55 USD for a return trip. Now also add in your travel money from Heathrow (I'd assume that's the airport you'd fly into) to Stansted which I think someone said would be roughly 30-40 USD? Either way, once it's all done you've spent almost as much as you would flying into Glasgow. Also checked the trains, and maybe I'm missing something about UK trains, they are very expensive. Would cost you almost 2x the price to fly in and out of Glasgow from London. So, with that said my advice would be to fly into Glasgow. It's much easier and the price of the alternative is nothing to drool over Good luck

Keep in mind that because planes can be late and custom lines slow, you have to allow a lot of time between your London arrival and your departure for Glasgow. I would even suggest an overnight. Then you have to transfer to and from the airport also.
I suspect that you would need a lot more savings than $131 to make this worthwhile.
And with Kim's link, you can do even better.
