We are planning on leaving Paris June 5th and go to Rome. My fiance mentioned about taking an over night train to Rome and I was interested in flying with one of the budget airlines. What do you recommend and how do I go about it? Also what is the best way to travel in Rome? I am getting a little confused on trying to find a hotel that is close to transportation and they keep saying there are a couple of different ways.
Thanks,
kara

volareweb.com has two flights listed that Saturday: 2004 Jun 05 15.45 - 18.05 2004 Jun 05 17.05 - 19.05 this is ORY to FCO don't know why there's a 20 min shorter flight in the evening but, both are cheap: 40 Euros per person. plus taxes & fees. the total is about 76 Euros per. any changes once you buy will bring extra fees. (to get this price, you might need to buy ahead of time) haven't been to Rome yet, going in April, so can't give any info about transport in town. i'm hoping there will be public buses. - d

Hi, I will be going from Paris to Rome too and had to bother myself with either a night train or budget airline. FInally decided to fly as it will only 2 hours or so compare with the countless hours spent on the train. We used ryanair but volareweb as david mentioned seem to be cheaper. Ryanair charges a total of 115 euros for your trip.
Perhaps you can do a hotel websearch to see which is the nearest to the train station. Haven been there yet too! Good Luck!

Rome is a bargain for public transport....a one week unlimited bus/metro pass is 16 euros! If I recall correctly a 'day' pass is about 5 euros. (You can not buy tickets on the bus....pruchase in advance at newsstands) Very extensive bus system, limited metro. Most of the 'main' sights are within walking distance of each other, in under an hour depending on where you are starting from and are going.
