cheapest way to get from Athens to Crete?

Hello,

I have from the 19th to the 25th of March in Athens, and no real plans yet. I would like to see the palace at Knossos (Crete?), but my budget is very very tight. Any suggestions regarding costs and methods of getting to Knossos and back cheaply, or should I scrap it and stay in Athens the whole 6 days? Will there be enough to do/see in Athens to stay that long?
