Hey All!
I'm new on the block and just making an into. Leaving on a jet plane and don't know when I'll be back again (well I do but let me enjoy my moment).
Doing a RTW ticket in Jan/03 starting in Oceana (Fiji/NZ/OZ) Asia (Ind/Mal/Tha/Viet) Europe, Carrib. I know this is a Europe BB, so I'll focus on that. Planning on UK late Aug/03 (BritRail) and the rest of EU (EuroRail) Oct-Dec/03. The backpack scene done this way is new to me. I've already obtained HI card, applied for the HOE card.
I've got a general direction in mind staying north early (UK) and moving in a southerly direction as the season changes. I might be too aggressive in doing the multi country thing, so I've conceeded some spots already (NOR,SWE,FIN) I have to zip over to Munich first for Oktoberfest, but then thought of going back up to NETH and work down from there.
Does anyone have suggestions on "can't miss" opportunities? I prefer to attempt this the economical way first (cheap bugger! but I am away for the whole year). I was in FRA earlier in the spring, so I may pass over a good portion as well. DEN GER BENELUX AUS SWI ITA HUN SPA POR are on my wish list. Not sure about GRE at this point - I'm not encouraged by rail connection comments in my research. I have done the island thing on a cruise 2 yr ago. Loved it but I don't think it's feasable due to time.
I will post my progress for sure when my adventure begins.

Just remember......Octoberfest is actually not in October at all.....it's in late September, ending early in October. If you are not planning to begin the Europe section of your travels TILL October you will likely miss it. ging
