Hi Jeff,
I have never had any problems drinking tap water in Europe. But often times, it is not the water that is bad, but the plumbing the water goes through to get to you. Things can be a lot older than in N. America, but I have no tips on how to judge this. I don't really hesitate when I am thirsty.

Jeff,
you could do like many Europeans and drink bottled water.
but, i think a safe water supply is pretty standard in Western Europe. it might be advised to learn local terms for potable water. [tap water on train is *NOT* saFE!]

Well I was just thinking that I'd rather be safe than get sick. Also if the water is "safe" to drink I'd rather take a little time and run it through the filter and not worry about it, plus wouldn't I save some cash by not buying bottled water each day? yes no?
Also I was thinking it would be useful as a last resort if I knew the water wasn't perfect for drinking but say there was no other options. ?
The filter it self only Weighs: 312.0 grams

It's not so much that it's not safe, it's perfectly safe to drink, it just can tend to taste gross. ;D
There is absolutely no reason you can't drink the water, it's not like Asia where it can make you sick, but you just might prefer bottled water for the taste.
And being that the filter won't get rid of the taste, bottled is the way to go.

hmm. interesting. So my money would be better spent on other gear. So there would be no benefits of purchasing a water filter such as this. ?

Apparently some places (at least in Italy) still have lead pipes, or so I've read. But a filter of this sort would not remove heavy metals anyway, I don't think.

I'm thinking since the water purifier costs about seventy bucks... It would probably save money over buying bottled water everyday but it's probably not going to get rid of all the toxins and the gross taste. I say spend your money on something else of more use.
