Hello. I'm looking to take a trip to Europe, either at the beginning of June - July or September - October (roughly 6-8 weeks, depending on budget). I plan on staying at hostels and thought June might be busy with college kids making the trip and making reservations may be more difficult. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm flexible enough to do either, but want to have this be as fun as can be - I've waited 28 years to do this! Thanks!

Some cities are more likely to be booked up than others, or in some cases the good hostels get booked up, but the crummy ones don't.
My preference would be to book ahead and then change plans if necessary (keeping in mind the hostel's cancellation policy). But lots of people do wing it quite successfully.

I have travelled both these times and I must say, next trip i'm taking will be in Sept. I loved the june-july weather, but ended up being too hot walking around in the hot sun, waiting in line for simply everything and always having a hard time cause everything was reserved far in advanced and totally booked up, even museum tickets in some places (like Paris).
In Sept, I got great weather till the end of the month, walking around in a little shirt, even a tank top sometimes. It was so hot in Prague and Germany, I was nearly regretting my warm clothers!
No lines, not many people and no reservations hardly to be made! xoxo jen
