Never having been to Europe and turning 33, I knew that I had to do this before settling down...where do I want to settle down?? I looked into my options, because I don't feel a 2-week trip could possibly produce what I want from going to Europe and being broke really reduce my options too! I knew I would have to "work" and looked into teaching English, or being an AuPair. I leave June 1st to be an AuPair in Northern Italy! In my days off, I will do the alone exploratory travelling at least through Italy. I am excited, nervous, anxious and just cannot believe this dream is finally coming true!! Anyone going to be close by? Any comments? Anything! I was so glad to find this board, because it has given me a wealth of information regarding packing and I have even found some groovy sounding hostels in Rome. I love the one in a Castle in Northern Italy!! We spend the first two months on holiday in Spain. But, I will return when school starts there for the kids. Love to hear from ANYONE. ;D ;D ;D

Wow! You're very lucky! I don't have much advice for you because I haven't been to Europe since I was 10, but I'd like to wish you a good trip! How long will you be staying in Italy?
Lucky you! ~Michelle

As long as humanely possible!! I am hoping for an Under the Tuscan Sun situation! I have told the host family at least a year, and possibly longer if I like it! I would like to try and do other things too. It really all depends on what happens, you know? I wouldn't say lucky, but blessed because I have LONGED for Europe (well, more Italy!). I have to make things happen for myself that I long for. It still isn't TOO real.

Wow, good for you, hedykay! Not sure what kind of time off you'll have, but I think you'd find lots to do and see in Northern Italy. Where exactly will you be?

I realized there isn't really any place to do so, but I did not put in my first posting. My name is Heather! I am new here! Researching Europe online, I found this website. It is GREAT! I know, most people here cannot believe that I am doing this! Packing up my whole life and taking off. I will be in Torino, Italy (Olympics will be there in 2006). I think I may be a nervous wreck with anticipation my last month in the states! I will be able to save up days off too to take longer adventures, but Oh I will take every chance I can to venture! Thanks for your great words! hedy TEXT

;D Thank you so much! When I watched Under The Tuscan Sun, my friend kept making fun of me, because I wanted to know the hows, the wherefores of all that she did for my own adventure! How did she just get off a bus and buy a villa??? Everyone that wants it, should have their own Tuscan Sun experience!! I want to go to all coasts, all places, Almalfi Coast, YES!! I want to go to all the "islands" including Sardenia and Sicily. Even Crete too some day!! Let me know, via email, when you will arrive, and maybe we can meet! Have fun in the meantime.

A host family? How do you get accomodated like that? I'll be there this summer and hope to fall into something like that.

www.goldnet.it/~jolly/www.greataupair.comI don't think it is that easy to fall into something like that. It is a family entrusting you with their children, so you will have to "go about it" in that way rather than fall into it. Good Luck!
