Lots of people here have gotten cheap fares, as low as one penny plus tax, for various flights around Europe. But that looks to be coming to an end. One thing for sure - the legislators voting on this won't personally suffer because of it. I can understand the environmental rationale, bu this will definitely increase European travel costs for me.
Edit: I don't mean to raise the alarm. From the rest of the article, it sounds like this plan is far from approved.

AIR passengers will be charged up to £40 extra for a return ticket within Europe to pay for the environmental impact of their journeys, under plans approved by the European Parliament yesterday.
MEPs voted in favour of the “immediate introduction” of a tax on jet fuel for flights within the 25 member states of the EU. The charge would double the cost of millions of budget airline flights.
