could i solicit some advice? am looking for cheap flights to Kiev for a possible trip next Summer. i'd be coming from Frankfurt, toward Italy. i'd like to be able to fly to Kiev from Italy, Slovenia, Hungary or Austria. even Croatia. on whichbudget.com/ they list flights from Kiev to Baltic capitols & Rome, with blu-express. but blu-express website sez nothing about Kiev flights! [i'd fly *from* Kiev to Tallinn, surface transport to Helsinki for a visit before i fly home]

I found an airline that is flying Vienna - Kiev: Air Baltic, but they are flying via Riga. online.atp.nl/tc.dll?ac=search&st=fares&tid=ATPNLGO-P99ZM3S6H-C, the site is in Dutch, but I presume, that you can make something out of this. because all online bookingforms look the same. Another option but also around 200 euros, is to fly Vienna - Kiev, with LOT Polish airlines. Making a stop in Warzaw, and keep you waiting for more than 5 hours between flights! For Rome - Kiev, the same story, nothing really cheap: online.atp.nl/tc.dll?ac=search&st=fares&tid=ATPNLGO-P99ZM3S6H-C, Ukraine International Airlines would be the cheapest for 243 all included. P.S. I used some dates in March, just to see what would happen.

D, so cool to see you're planning that trip to Kiev! You mentioned it in another post and here you are sorting it already - nice one! I'm so jealous - closest I've been is on the Romanian side of the Black Sea (I know, not that close!). Looking forward to hearing about your impressions and experiences.

Kiev is still a maybe. heck, the whole trip is still a maybe!
as i've mentioned in the past, my Mom has been invited to visit friends in Münster, Germany. well, these friends were in Dallas recently <the husband was teaching a seminar at SMU law school> and reiterated the invitation.
Mom's expressed strong interest in going, and also sez that she wants me to travel with her. [i'm hoping she doesn't need me on the transatlantic flights. so i can stay after she goes home]
two of the new places i want to see are Tallinn & Kiev, where the music director from my church when i was young has moved and established Kyiv Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, as well as a church w/ big outreach ministry. <www.musicmissionkiev.org/>
[the Orchestra & Chorus were in Dallas in October. it was great to see Roger again. this has again made me want to visit Kiev; and hear that music again!]
it's quite possible, Mom will back out again. i don't know that i'd go ahead with the trip. (if she decides she needs me to be on the transatlantic plane with her, i wouldn't have the chance to see more than the area near Münster - it's beautiful & interesting there, but i've spent extended time there - and there's so much more i want to see)

Maybe the Europe by Air Flight Pass can help you do the Kiev-Tallinn part cheaply: www.europebyair.com/efp/cheapflightstoeurope.jspIn respect to your mom, that's certainly a bit tough. I wish there was some sort of program sort of like an unaccompanied minor program for nervous flyers. Is a nonstop from Germany to your home airport possible? Maybe she'd be happy if you got her to the German airport, and you arranged for a friend to get her back at the home airport.

oh, i'd easily found Kiev-Tallinn flights! it was the other part, getting *to* Kiev that was a problem. as Herbert has pointed out, it'd be possible to get there via Riga or Warsaw, which i might pursue. regarding Mom, now she's talking about going to Kiev, too. we'll see what happens there. Edit, re your question: yes, there are non-stops from Frankfurt to Dallas/Fort Worth (one of my sisters lives near DFW airport) i'm hoping that i could accompany her from Münster to FRA and put her on the plane. i hope she'd be comfortable with that. - d

found that there will be flights to Kiev from Pescara, Italy, with OnAir starting in May.
Pescara is across the Italian peninsula, East from Rome. anyone been there?

Yep, for lunch, and have two friends from there (who messed up my plain Florentine accent with Pescara word-eating accents! ;D). Big port town, architecture is very "east-Italian" (my word, not official I'm sure but describes the fact that it looks different to northern Italian buildings, a bit "coastal" if you like) and great (and long) beach that is packed out in August. It doesn't need more than a day or two's stay, unless you want to lie on the beach and go to the clubs. You can see the historical centre and port in a day, then travel on to Ravenna, Rimini, Rome or Kiev in this case.

as long as "coastal" isn't like "postal," it's no problem ;D a bit "coastal" if you like)

Gershwin & Goodman. oh, that www.musicmissionkiev.org/ site went down for a while. it's back up now. interesting to another recent conversation, second act finale from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet is also a track on that site. - d I was trying to work out the Gershwin reference...and then you changed it!
