I'm considering doing the whole busabout thing. I'm a solo female traveller. Anyone else try this? I just thought it would be a good idea since I'm alone, so I can meet people : ) Is it safe? Fun? Flexible? What are some adjectives for Busabout?

Ugh. Busabout.... Not a great fan of them. They tend to advertise cheap campgrounds far from the city itself that doesn't really make any sense.
Budget airlines are the way to go.
You could easily save more money (and TIME) by going to the cities you want to go and fly budget carriers such as easyJet, etc and plus stay in hostels. Hostels are a good way to meet people and they do have same-sex rooms and you could meet new people there. Rather than be on a smelly bus all day.

I just booked a tour on busabout for me and my friend (both 20 year old girls) My friend did one last summer and raved about it so i thought it could be fun. Also it takes the hassle out of being alone in europe with a rail pass that i dont know how to work. About the campground thing... you can stay wherever you want so just stay somewhere better if you want ( which is what we are planning on doing ). Anyways, good luck with your planning! Amanda

Oh really? When are you all planning on going? I was thinking May or July...the southern loop plus Paris.

what do you mean by cheap campgrounds? and how smelly are these buses? Have you used the busabout service before or is it just something you have heard? Sounds like it's really bad but I heard mixed reviews!

I plan on doing BusAbout as well. The appeal, for me anyways, is that you get to be with fellow backpackers on the long trips in between cities. And then, you might have some people to meet up with in those cities once you get there. And also, you don't have to do annoying train connections in between, you just get on at one place and then they drop you off at your destination. It's just the alternative to the lonely train rides... As for campgrounds, you don't have to stay at them, that's just where they drop you off. I don't intend on staying at all of the BusAbout hostels. I think it sounds really great, you get on the bus at 8am every morning and then you are off to the next city. The only bad thing is that they don't stop in every city, but it just so happened for me that they were stopping in every city I wanted to visit anyway.
